Convert Excel to MT940

Convert your Excel transactions to MT940 or CAMT.053 for import into your accounting software.

Why convert Excel to MT940?

Many business owners track transactions in Excel — for example from a foreign bank, credit card, PayPal, or a personal account. Unfortunately, most accounting packages do not accept Excel files for bank import. The solution: convert Excel to MT940 or CAMT.053.

Why Excel cannot be imported directly

  • Accounting packages expect structured bank statement formats (MT940 or CAMT.053).
  • Excel does not contain metadata such as IBAN, opening/closing balance and statement number.
  • Column layouts vary per user and per source.
  • Conversion to MT940 adds the required structure and metadata.

  7. Import the file into your accounting software.

Tips for a successful conversion

  • Ensure the date column has a consistent format (DD-MM-YYYY or YYYY-MM-DD).
  • Use positive amounts for credits and negative for debits (or use separate columns for debit/credit).
  • Remove empty rows, subtotals and summary rows.
  • Check that the IBAN matches the bank account in your accounting software.
