Getting started

The basics and your first conversion
What is StatementBridge?

StatementBridge is an online tool that lets you convert bank statements and transaction files between different formats such as MT940, CAMT.053, CSV, Excel, OFX and more. Upload a file in one format and download it in the format your accounting software requires.

How do I upload a file?

Drag a file onto the upload area on the home page or click to select. StatementBridge detects the format automatically (MT940, CAMT, Excel, CSV, PDF) and guides you through the steps: map columns where needed, review transactions and pick the output format.

What are conversion profiles?

A conversion profile stores your settings for a given type of conversion: column mappings, account details (IBAN, BIC, currency), date format and output format. Handy if you regularly convert the same kind of files — pick the profile and all fields are filled in automatically. Manage profiles under Settings.

Formats & conversion

Banks, formats and accounting packages
Which file formats are supported?

StatementBridge supports MT940 (SWIFT), CAMT.053 (ISO 20022), CAMT.054, CSV, Excel (.xlsx), OFX, CODA (Belgian), DATEV (German) and PDF (with AI extraction). For both import and export.

Why can't my accounting software import my bank statement?

This is usually because the file format from your bank doesn't match what your accounting software expects. Banks provide files in MT940, CAMT.053 or CSV, but each accounting package has its own requirements. StatementBridge solves this by converting the file to the correct format.

What is the difference between MT940 and CAMT.053?

MT940 is the older SWIFT standard for bank statements, used by many Dutch and European banks. CAMT.053 is the newer ISO 20022 XML standard that contains more detailed information. Many banks are transitioning from MT940 to CAMT.053, which can cause import problems in older accounting software.

Can I convert CSV bank statements to MT940?

Yes. Upload your CSV file, map the columns to the correct fields (date, amount, description, etc.) and choose MT940 as the export format. StatementBridge generates a valid MT940 file that you can import into your accounting software.

How does PDF extraction work?

PDF bank statements don't contain structured data. StatementBridge uses AI (OpenAI or Anthropic) to recognise transactions from the PDF. You need your own API key and a Pro subscription for this feature.

Which accounting packages are supported?

StatementBridge generates standard formats that almost every package accepts. MT940: Exact Online, Twinfield, AFAS, SnelStart, Moneybird, e-Boekhouden, Yuki. CAMT.053: Exact Online, Twinfield, AFAS, Moneybird, Yuki, Visma. OFX: QuickBooks, GnuCash. CODA: Belgian accounting (Yuki, BOB, Octopus). DATEV: German accounting (DATEV, Lexware). Excel/CSV for manual processing in any package.

Can I import PayPal, Stripe or Mollie transactions?

Yes. Export your transactions as CSV from PayPal, Stripe or Mollie, upload the file, map the columns (date, amount, description) and export to MT940 or CAMT.053. You then import that file into Exact, Twinfield, AFAS, Moneybird or another package.

Can I convert AMEX or ICS credit card statements?

Yes. AMEX and ICS provide statements as CSV or PDF. Upload the file and convert to MT940 or CAMT.053. For PDF statements you can use AI extraction (Pro plan). Tip: enable 'Invert amounts' for credit card statements if needed.

Can I import foreign currency (USD, GBP) statements?

Yes. Set the correct currency in step 4 (Import settings) — USD, GBP, CHF, etc. — and StatementBridge writes the correct currency codes. Note: some packages (such as Exact Online) require a separate ledger and sometimes a dummy IBAN for foreign currency.

My bank gives a format my accounting package won't accept. Now what?

That's exactly what StatementBridge is for. Upload the statement in the format your bank provides (e.g. CAMT.053) and convert it to the format your package expects (e.g. MT940). The whole conversion takes less than a minute.
