Convert credit card statements for your accounting

Convert credit card CSVs and PDF statements from Amex, Visa and Mastercard to MT940, CAMT.053, Excel or any other import format.

The problem with credit card statements

Credit card companies provide statements in proprietary formats that are incompatible with your accounting software. Common issues include:

  • CSV files with non-standard column layouts and date formats
  • Amounts shown as negative (debit) where your software expects positive
  • Missing fields such as IBAN, BIC or balance
  • Only a PDF statement available, no digital file
  • Foreign currencies and exchange rates in the file

The solution: StatementBridge

StatementBridge provides tools to correctly process credit card CSVs: map columns, reverse amounts (debit/credit) and fill in account details.

  1. 1
    Upload

Upload your credit card CSV or PDF statement

  2. 2
    Map columns

Map date, amount and description to the correct columns. Use the "reverse amount" option for credit card transactions

  3. 3
    Review transactions

Review the recognised transactions, add account details (IBAN, BIC, balance)

  4. 4
    Export

Download as MT940, CAMT.053, Excel or another format for your accounting software

Comparison: credit card formats by issuer

Each credit card company delivers data in its own format. Here are the key differences:

StatementBridge recognises all these formats automatically and provides the option to manually map columns when the format deviates from the standard.

Tips for credit card import

  • Reverse amounts: With some credit card companies, charges appear as negative amounts. Use the “Reverse amount” option in step 2 to correct this.
  • Enter IBAN: Credit card statements don't contain an IBAN. In step 4, enter the IBAN of your credit card account (found on your invoice).
  • Enter balance manually: Since credit card files don't include opening and closing balances, you can set these manually for a correctly balanced MT940 file.
  • PDF statement: If you only have a PDF, use AI PDF extraction (Pro) to automatically recognise transactions.

Compatible accounting software

Export your credit card transactions to the format your accounting software requires:

  • Exact Online, Twinfield, AFAS — via MT940 (.sta)
  • Visma eAccounting — via CAMT.053 (.xml)
  • SnelStart, e-Boekhouden, Yuki — via MT940 or CSV
  • Excel analysis — via .xlsx with full transaction details

Frequently asked questions about credit card statements

Can I import a credit card statement into my accounting software?

Yes. Upload your credit card CSV or PDF in StatementBridge, map the columns and export to MT940, CAMT.053 or Excel. The converted file can be imported directly into your accounting software.

My credit card statement has no IBAN. What now?

Credit card statements indeed don't contain an IBAN. In step 4 of the wizard you can manually enter the IBAN of your credit card account. You can find this on your credit card invoice or in your online banking.

Are foreign currencies handled correctly?

Yes. StatementBridge detects the currency automatically from the file. Transactions in foreign currencies are preserved with the original amount and currency code.
