Import bank statement CSV files into your accounting software

Need to import CSV bank statements into your accounting software? Convert CSV to MT940, CAMT.053 or Excel with the correct structure.

The problem with CSV bank statements

Many banks offer the option to download transactions as a CSV file. This seems convenient, but in practice it often causes problems when importing into accounting software:

  • No standard column layout: Every bank uses its own column names and order.
  • Different date formats: DD-MM-YYYY vs. YYYY-MM-DD vs. MM/DD/YYYY.
  • Delimiters: Comma, semicolon or tab — the software often expects something different.
  • Missing metadata: CSV files lack the account number, BIC or balance information that accounting software requires.
  • Encoding issues: UTF-8, Latin-1 or Windows-1252 — incorrect encoding leads to corrupted characters.

The solution: convert CSV to a structured format

StatementBridge solves all these problems by intelligently analysing your CSV file:

  1. Upload your CSV file (any format, any bank)
  2. StatementBridge automatically detects the columns and date format
  3. Map the columns to the correct fields (date, amount, description)
  4. Add account details (IBAN, BIC, currency)
  5. Download as MT940, CAMT.053, Excel or another format

CSV instructions per bank

Below you will find instructions for downloading and converting CSV files from different banks:

ING

Go to My ING → Transactions → Download (CSV). ING delivers a semicolon-separated file with columns: Date, Name / Description, Account, Counter Account, Code, Debit/Credit, Amount, Transaction Type, Notes. StatementBridge recognises the ING format automatically.

ABN AMRO

Go to Internet Banking → Transactions → Download as TAB file (.tab). ABN AMRO uses tab as delimiter. Columns: Account Number, Currency Code, Transaction Date, Opening Balance, Closing Balance, Interest Date, Amount, Description. Upload the .tab file directly in StatementBridge.

Rabobank

Go to Rabo Online Banking → Transactions → Download (CSV). Rabobank delivers a comma-separated file including: IBAN/BBAN, Currency, BIC, Sequence No., Date, Interest Date, Amount, Balance after txn, Counterparty IBAN. StatementBridge recognises the Rabobank layout automatically.

Bunq / N26 / Revolut

Modern banks typically deliver CSV files in English format with ISO dates (YYYY-MM-DD). Amounts use a full stop as decimal separator. StatementBridge automatically detects the date format and delimiter.

Common CSV import issues

  • Corrupted characters (e.g. accented letters): This indicates an encoding problem. StatementBridge automatically tries UTF-8, Latin-1 and Windows-1252. If issues persist, check your bank's download settings.
  • Dates not recognised: Some banks use American date format (MM/DD/YYYY). You can manually select the date format in step 2.
  • Amounts are incorrect: Check whether the decimal separator matches (comma vs. full stop) and whether debits and credits are correctly identified.
  • Empty rows or extra headers: Some bank CSVs contain extra header lines or empty rows. StatementBridge filters these automatically.

Compatible with all banks

StatementBridge works with CSV exports from all banks, including ING, ABN AMRO, Rabobank, Bunq, N26, Revolut, Wise (TransferWise), KBC, BNP Paribas and more. The intelligent column recognition adapts to any CSV structure.
