Wise to MT940 in 3 steps
- Export the Wise statement. Download the statement as CSV from Wise Business, one currency balance at a time.
- Set the currency. Enter the right currency code so the MT940 :60F: field carries it. Use a separate ledger per currency.
- Download the MT940 file. An FX conversion inside Wise appears as two entries — outgoing on one ledger, incoming on the other, which is an internal transfer.
What is different about Wise
A BE-prefix EUR IBAN
Modern packages accept any valid EU IBAN. If yours rejects it, use a fictitious local IBAN for the Wise EUR ledger.
One ledger per currency
Wise EUR, Wise USD, Wise GBP each get their own ledger. Mixing them makes balances impossible to follow.
FX conversions are internal transfers
A conversion between your own balances is not revenue or cost. Only Wise's spread is a cost.
No MT940 from Wise itself
Wise offers CSV and PDF. Converting the CSV is what gets you an importable file.
