Download MT940/CAMT.053 from Knab

Step-by-step guide for exporting bank statements from Knab for your accounting software.

Knab is popular with freelancers and SME entrepreneurs. For your accounting you need a file that your accounting package accepts — usually MT940 or CAMT.053. In this guide you will learn how to create the accounting export in Knab and which format is best to choose.

Which formats does Knab offer?

  • MT940 — available free of charge for accounting.
  • CAMT.053 — the more modern ISO 20022 format with more transaction details.
  • CSV — easy to open in Excel.
  • PDF — for archiving and review.

For accounting, Knab increasingly steers towards CAMT.053, but still offers MT940 as well. Read more about the difference in MT940 vs CAMT.053.

Create the accounting export via Knab (web)

You create the accounting export in the desktop/web environment, not in the mobile app. The on-screen wording may vary slightly.

  1. Log in to knab.nl on your computer.
  2. Open Payments and then Credits and debits.
  3. Select the account and choose Accounting export (download).
  4. Choose the desired period.
  5. Select the format: CAMT.053 or MT940.
  6. Download the file and save it in a fixed location (for example \Bank statements\Knab\2026\).

Tip: MT940 is one business day behind by default; today's transactions are usually not yet included. Request a period up to and including yesterday.

No suitable format? Convert the export

Does your accounting package only accept MT940 while you downloaded CSV, or the other way around? Convert the file with StatementBridge:

Points to note for Knab statements

  • Web instead of app. The accounting export is only in the web environment.
  • One business day delay. Request a period up to and including yesterday for a complete export.
  • Opening and closing balance. Check that the balances match to avoid duplicate or missing periods.
