Knab is popular with freelancers and SME entrepreneurs. For your accounting you need a file that your accounting package accepts — usually MT940 or CAMT.053. In this guide you will learn how to create the accounting export in Knab and which format is best to choose.
Which formats does Knab offer?
- MT940 — available free of charge for accounting.
- CAMT.053 — the more modern ISO 20022 format with more transaction details.
- CSV — easy to open in Excel.
- PDF — for archiving and review.

Create the accounting export via Knab (web)
You create the accounting export in the desktop/web environment, not in the mobile app. The on-screen wording may vary slightly.
- Log in to knab.nl on your computer.
- Open Payments and then Credits and debits.
- Select the account and choose Accounting export (download).
- Choose the desired period.
- Select the format: CAMT.053 or MT940.
- Download the file and save it in a fixed location (for example
\Bank statements\Knab\2026\).
Tip: MT940 is one business day behind by default; today's transactions are usually not yet included. Request a period up to and including yesterday.

Points to note for Knab statements
- Web instead of app. The accounting export is only in the web environment.
- One business day delay. Request a period up to and including yesterday for a complete export.
- Opening and closing balance. Check that the balances match to avoid duplicate or missing periods.
