Import AMEX, PayPal, Stripe and Mollie into Exact Online

Importing payment providers into Exact Online

Exact Online is one of the most widely used accounting packages in the Netherlands and Belgium. The platform accepts bank statements exclusively in MT940 or CAMT.053 format. CSV and Excel files are not supported for bank statement import. This means that exports from payment providers such as AMEX, ICS, PayPal, Stripe and Mollie must first be converted before you can import them.

With StatementBridge you convert these exports to MT940 or CAMT.053 — ready to import into Exact Online via Boekhouding > Bank en kas > Afschriften > Import.

AMEX (American Express)

American Express provides transaction statements as a CSV file. You download this via your AMEX account under Statements > Download. The CSV file contains columns such as date, description, amount and reference number. Exact Online cannot import this CSV file directly — conversion to MT940 or CAMT.053 is required.

ICS (Visa/Mastercard)

ICS processes credit card transactions for Visa and Mastercard in the Netherlands. ICS offers statements as PDF or CSV. You can download the CSV export via Mijn ICS. PDF statements can be processed with the AI extraction feature of StatementBridge (Pro). After conversion to MT940, you import the file into Exact Online.

PayPal

PayPal provides transaction statements as a CSV file. You download this via Activity > Download Reports on paypal.com. Note: PayPal exports contain columns such as Gross, Fee and Net. Use the Gross column as the amount for the full transaction value. After conversion to MT940, you import the file into Exact Online.

Stripe

Stripe offers payout reports and transaction data as a CSV file via the Stripe Dashboard under Payments > All transactions > Export, or via Balance > Payouts. Stripe CSV files contain columns such as Created, Amount, Fee and Description. After conversion to MT940 or CAMT.053, you can import the Stripe transactions into Exact Online.

Mollie

Mollie offers settlements and payment overviews as a CSV file via the Mollie Dashboard under Finances > Exports. Mollie exports contain columns such as Created at, Amount, Method and Description. After conversion to MT940, you can import the Mollie transactions into Exact Online.

Conversion in 5 steps

1. Export from the payment provider: download the CSV or Excel file from your AMEX, ICS, PayPal, Stripe or Mollie account.
2. Upload to StatementBridge: go to StatementBridge and upload the file.
3. Map the columns: assign the columns to the correct fields (date, amount, description, reference). Enter the IBAN of the account where you want to book the transactions.
4. Export as MT940 or CAMT.053: choose the desired output format and click Convert.
5. Import into Exact Online: go to Boekhouding > Bank en kas > Afschriften > Import and select the converted file.

Common problems and solutions

Problem	Cause	Solution
"Bank account not found"	The IBAN in the MT940 file does not match an account in Exact Online	Create the bank account in Exact Online with the correct IBAN, or adjust the IBAN during conversion in StatementBridge
"Invalid file format"	The CSV file was uploaded directly into Exact Online	Exact Online does not accept CSV. Convert to MT940 or CAMT.053 first via StatementBridge
Duplicate transactions	The same period was imported multiple times	Check the statement numbers. Import each period only once
Amounts are incorrect (PayPal)	The Net column was used instead of Gross	Use the Gross column for the full transaction amount. Book PayPal fees separately
Currency issues	The export contains multiple currencies (e.g. USD and EUR)	Filter the export by a single currency or process each currency separately
Stripe amounts in cents	Stripe exports amounts in the smallest currency unit by default	StatementBridge detects this automatically. Check the preview for the correct amounts
