Downloading bank statements from ABN AMRO

ABN AMRO is one of the largest banks in the Netherlands and offers multiple download formats for bank statements, including CAMT.053, MT940, XLS, PDF and TXT. For import into accounting software, CAMT.053 and MT940 are the recommended formats.

MT940 or CAMT.053: which format to choose?

We recommend CAMT.053. This is the newer ISO 20022 format that contains more details about batch transactions and individual payments. MT940 is sufficient if you only need totals per batch, but CAMT.053 is more future-proof.

Download via ABN AMRO Online Banking

1. Log in to the ABN AMRO website and select your business bank account.
2. In the menu, go to Manage > Download transactions.
3. Select the account(s) you want to download transactions from.
4. Choose the period (maximum 12 months per request).
5. Select the format: CAMT.053 (recommended), MT940, XLS, PDF or TXT.
6. Click Download.

Important: Do NOT use the ‘Download from last date’ function — this is not always reliable and can lead to missing or duplicate transactions. Always manually select the start and end date.

Import the downloaded file into your accounting software
